Update from ITPNZ
Here's a quick weekly update from ITP CEO Paul Matthews.
If you or your colleagues are planning to move more from operational to strategic IT, the "Become an Effective CIO" course is for you. This is the perfect preparation for aspiring and new CIOs and the next cohort is kicking off soon. Let us know if you're interested - this is the last time we're running it this year. Also, a host of other live-online courses are coming up soon, and the ITx Rutherford programme is looking incredible!
Want to be CIO, or have others in your team wanting to step up?
Are you keen to take the step from Operational to Strategic IT? Or perhaps you're thinking about succession planning and have a really good 2IC or others that will eventually step up?
ITP runs a "Become and Effective CIO" course nationwide that helps grow the skills, knowledge and mindset needed to be an effective CIO. It's designed to work around busy people's schedule and the next cohort is kicking off soon.
The course is delivered live online 2 evenings a fortnight over 12 weeks, plus in-person sessions at the start and end.
The course focuses on leadership and strategy from the outset, also covering off a number of key skills needed to be an effective CIO. Delivered by CIOs and other experts, it draws on deep experience and knowledge to give significant insight into being a successful technology leader.
If you're interested in this for you or a colleague, drop us a note and we can talk you through it. It really is an awesome course and one that I'm very proud of.
Introduction to the NZISM
How well do you know the NZISM? Do you even know what it is?
The New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) is the New Zealand Government's manual on information assurance and information systems security. And if you or your team are selling into Govt, or want to be, you really should be on top of it.
An introduction to the NZISM is just one of the many ITP short-courses coming up on cyber-security and other topics, and we really do have a heap of different course options available. These courses are inexpensive and delivered by genuine experts.
Other ITP courses coming up
As well as face-to-face short courses in Auckland, Wellington and elsewhere on demand, this year we started live-online delivery of many of our popular short courses.
This is instructor-led, cohort-based fully interactive delivery via live online video. We use small-group breakouts and other techniques to ensure you get the advantage of your colleagues as much as the course taker, and feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
As well as the courses above, we have the following live-online half-day and full-day courses coming up:
- Web security fundamentals (24/7 - half-day)
- Hands-on security: Testing your web apps for exploits (31/7 - full day)
- Cybersecurity Incident Response Playbooks (1/8 - half-day)
- Introduction to the NZISM (28/8 - half-day)
Other upcoming courses:
- Developing critical influence skills for better outcomes (23/7 - full day)
- Introduction to DevOps (8/8 - half-day)
- Introduction to SFIA (17/9 - half-day)
- Developing Resilience in IT Professionals (16/10 - half-day)
- Written Communication for IT Professionals (17/10 - half-day)
More are also being scheduled all the time, including project management and IT governance courses. These courses are great value and will help develop your team.
ITx Rutherford 2019 Programme is looking amazing
We're excited to have received 52 talk proposals for ITx Rutherford 2019, and I can tell you that there are some absolute crackers in there!
Some really interesting trends in talks this year, with a strong focus on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, analysis of recent major transformation projects and much more. And I do mean much more - as always, the programme is seriously diverse with an awesome range of topics covering almost any tech-related topic you can think of.
We have a team of 32 reviewers busy reviewing all topics (assigned randomly with each topic being reviewed by 6 different people) to help us identify the topics that resonate the most with our community.
We'll announce the programme early next month but I can tell you it's going to be amazing. We'll kick off a limited number of Earlybird tickets at the same time and strongly recommend booking early.
Aside from the general talks, we'll shortly be announcing the first group of Keynotes for ITx Rutherford. Not trying to sell it, but again we have some truly incredible people coming to share their stories.
Trust me - you'll wont want to miss ITx Rutherford in October. More info at itx.nz
New Technology slot
Lastly, I spoke a couple of weeks ago on my monthly RNZ New Technology slot about Facebook's Libra, and the focus on a global payments service that this enables (a global version of AliPay and Wechat Pay that has taken over much of Asia).
If you're not thoroughly sick of the topic by now, you can listen to the podcast here.
