Update from ITPNZ

Update from ITPNZ

Here's a quick weekly update from ITP CEO Paul Matthews

We're super excited to be kicking off the fully refreshed ITP Mentoring programme over the next couple of weeks, as we stage invitations to potential mentees. The programme is fun, safe, rewarding and completely free for ITP members.

And if you're still keen on being a mentor, it's not too late - just sign up and we'll run through an induction with you to make sure you're well supported.

Some great events coming up over the next couple of weeks too! Next Thursday we have an awesome webinar panel featuring Siân Simpson of Kiwi Landing Pad fame, David Downs from NZTE, and one guest TBC talking about taking kiwi tech to the post-Covid world. Plus the Trade Me covid story in Wellington, Tech Chat Tuesday next week and more!

And don't forget to get your ITP gear, with a great range of ITP-branded clothing for work and play - now available at the ITP members' online store.

Taking kiwi tech to the post-Covid world

Next Thursday 9th July we're really excited to host a webinar panel of Siân Simpson (from Kiwi Landing Pad fame), the awesome David Downs from NZTE and creator of SOSBusiness, and Timely's CEO and co-founder Ryan Baker talking about taking kiwi tech to the world.

Friday live kiwi tech2.jpg

The panel are true experts on taking a tech idea to start-up and then to the world from New Zealand. So what are the opportunities, how can you get support, and what's changed thanks to Covid?

This really will be a good one. The Thursday Live Webinar is live at 4-5pm Thursday 9th July and will also kick off with TechBlog Live - our tech media panel featuring Paul Brislen, Sarah Putt and Peter Griffin.

Get yourself a Mentor

If you're serious about accelerating your career, mentoring has to play a key role. ITP's mentoring programme isn't just catching up with someone who has walked your path before - it's a structured programme to help you plan out where you want to go and help you get ahead.

And best of all, it's completely free for ITP members.

We've had a huge response from our Call for Mentors and with the mentor inductions happening now, we'll have close to 100 mentors ready to go when we kick things off.

What is the ITP Mentoring program?

People who are supported by a mentor almost invariably have a greater understanding of themselves and are in greater control of their own decisions. In fact the evidence clearly shows that those who have gone through a good mentoring programme advance their own careers at a far faster rate than those who don't.

As a Mentee, mentoring can:

  • Identify new areas needed for your professional development and growth
  • Gain new insights and knowledge about the profession
  • Clarify your career direction
  • Provide regular and constructive feedback
  • Provide professional support and networking opportunities

We'll be staging invitations over the next few weeks to sign up for a mentor in the refreshed programme. If you're an ITP member, watch out for your invitation.

Note that this is career mentoring intended for those already working, so student members are not eligible. However we're working on alternative options to ensure students are well supported for their transition into industry.

Still keen on being a mentor?

We're still signing up Mentors and would love to have you involved if you haven't already signed up. More information on being a mentor here

(And yes, you can be a mentor and a mentee at the same time).

Face to face Wellington event: Trade Me's Covid story

ITP face-to-face events are back and our branches across New Zealand are working through their plans for the rest of the year.

First cab off the rank is Wellington Branch, hosting Trade Me's Senior Product Manager for Engagement and Mobile Experience Sam Meikle talking about their Covid story - the impact on their platform and what they did to support New Zealanders who were suffering.

This should be a cracker, plus a great chance to come together for some good old-fashioned face-to-face catching up, from 4.15pm on 16 July at ITP's Event Centre in Wellington.

Tech Chat Tuesday - next week

ITP's Tech Chat Tuesday is a chance for our community to connect up online and have a bit of a chat in a small group setting. This is a no-sales zone; but come and share how you're getting through.

This is limited to 200 people per session, who will then be split randomly into groups of 5-6. Come and meet other tech folks like you in the same boat and feel free to engage as much or as little as you're comfortable.

Following the success of these events under the lockdown we have decided to continue the Tech Chats as a monthly event. Now being held on the first Tuesday of every month. We are also continuing our live webinar series as a fortnightly Thursday event, keep a look out for the excellent topics and guest speakers we have coming up next.

Free for members - more info and sign up
