Tech Week 2023: Gearing up to make the most of our annual tech-fest

Peter Griffin, Editor. 09 May 2023, 1:01 pm

It’s almost that time of the year again when tech-themed events are held all over the country, with something of interest for IT professionals, entrepreneurs and members of the public alike.

Tech Week is officially held from 13 - 20 May, with a focus on trends in technology and innovation, hands-on sessions where you can learn more about technology, and events showcasing the growing diversity of the tech community.

I sort of wistfully miss the time when Tech Week shifted online during the pandemic as I was able to participate in more sessions held all around the country. This year serves up a decent balance of in-person and online events so I’ll still be spoilt for choice.

Here’s a snapshot of just ten events from the jam-packed schedule that I’ll be trying to get to and which ITP members may want to check out…

Future-proofing our rural communities remains a key topic in an Election Year

If the last few years haven’t shown the real value in high quality connectivity, then the adverse weather events at the beginning of 2023 have reinforced the need to continue to future proof rural communities in Aotearoa. Even though the vast majority of urban NZ has been able to deal with the events of the last few years without missing a beat, regional and rural NZ users have had a mixed experience at best, or indeed had to deal with being disconnected for significant periods of time.
