Excellence in IT Awards finalists announced

The finalists for the prestigious New Zealand Excellence in IT Awards were announced this week, recognising the people making IT happen in New Zealand.

The X's are sector-wide awards recognising the individuals and teams who have truly excelled in our industry. While other awards focus on companies and vendors, the Excellence in IT Awards exclusively celebrates the real people behind software and information technology - the people that make IT work. The unsung heroes and champions of our sector. 

The Excellence in IT Awards are coordinated by IT Professionals NZ (ITP) in partnership with a range of IT-related bodies:



Finalists came from a diverse range of background across industry, Government and the education sector:

New Zealand IT Professional of the Year

  • Lukasz Zawilski, CIO, NZ Qualifications Authority
  • Regine Deleu, All-of-Government Enterprise Architect at Dept of Internal Affairs

Young IT Professional of the Year

  • Sam Jarman, Mobile Developer, BNZ
  • Caitlin Duncan, PhD student, University of Canterbury

IT Project Excellence Award

  • IR ServiceNow Sprint Team, Inland Revenue

  • Richard Morgan, Managing Director, Cyclone Computers

Excellence in Software

  • Darren Bruning, CIO, Velogicfit
  • Vulcan Steel and Datacom Team, led by James Well, CIO, Vulcan Steel and James David, Business Solutions Manager, Datacom
  • Kristen Burne and the NZ Police Family Harm Application Team, Kristen is Senior Project Manager for the NZ Police ICT delivery team

 Excellence in Digital Health

  • Kevin Ross, GM of Precision Driven Health and Director of Research, Orion Health

 Excellence in IT Education

  • Digital Technologies Teachers Aotearoa

Excellence in GovTech

  • Jeremy Hughes and the NZTA ONRC PMRT team, Jeremy is a Director of Company-X
  • Mike Taitoko and the Takiwā team, Mike is CEO and Founder of Takiwā
  • Education Sector Logon Upgrade project team, Ministry of Education

Excellence in Technical Communication

  • Steve Moss, Director, TechWrite Services
  • Emma Harding, Co-founder and Writing Team Manager, Streamliners
  • Grant Mackenzie, Senior Technical Communicator, RAMM Software Limited 

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner as part of ITx 2018 on Thursday 12th July.
