Quick ITP update and upcoming events

It's lockdown again! But don't worry, we'll be out again before we know it. And in the meantime, there's heaps going on:
As part of ITP's 60 year celebrations, we've recently released 2 books capturing both the history of computing in New Zealand, and a more light-hearted look over the last 5 years through the eyes of "Cartoons by Jim". Check them out below!
The CIO50 nominations close this Friday (please do nominate away), and why not use lockdown to look at ITP-branded clothing in the ITP webstore - deliveries will commence as soon as Welly is out of Level 4.
Plus, the return of our hugely popular Thursday Live webinar series from next month. First one up is a cracker - Ministry of Health's head of digital, Shayne Hunter, will run us through the recently announced reforms and the huge role tech and digital will play.
CIO50: nominations for NZ's leading CIOs
Our friends at CIO are putting again the awesome CIO50 list again this year and it'd be great to see lots of our community included.
Entries for this year's CIO50 have been extended to this Friday 27 August. Appreciate you will all be very busy, but it's well worth contributing as it will provide huge recognition for your team's achievements in the past 18 months. All entries are written up on cio.co.nz for everyone to share and gain knowledge from.
It's super easy to enter, it is just two questions:
- Describe an innovation or innovations that your team have introduced. (500 words)
- Describe ways in which you are influencing people including senior executives etc (500 words)
Optional question around sharing Diversity and Inclusion initiatives in your team/wider organisation (300 words).
Then all you need do is email the entry to CIO editor Sarah Putt. Sarah's happy to discuss any questions you may have so feel free to email her.
Books published to celebrate 60 years of Tech
As part of ITP's 60 year celebrations, we've recently released 2 books capturing both the history of computing in New Zealand, and a more light-hearted look over the last 5 years through the eyes of "Cartoons by Jim":
From Yesterday to Tomorrow: 60 years of tech in New Zealand
This is the authoritative source of the history of computing and technology in Aotearoa New Zealand, put together on the 60th Anniversary of IT Professionals New Zealand.
With 634 pages across 37 chapters, each chapter drills into a different part of the development of computing, written by a recognised national or international expert in each field. Chapter authors include experts such as Professor Tim Bell looking at education development, RedShield Founder Andy Prow looking at Cybersecurity, Privacy Commissioner John Edwards looking at technology challenges around privacy and so much more.
The book incorporates the full Looking Back to Tomorrow book, written during IT Professionals NZ (ITPNZ)'s 25th Anniversary, Return to Tomorrow, written during the 50th anniversary, and 15 new chapters written in 2021 to mark ITPNZ's 60th Anniversary.
Edited by Janet Toland. Check out the website for a full chapter list.
This book is available in paper or digital versions:
- Paperback here
- Ebook on Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, Booktopia, Barnes & Noble, Google Play Books, Scribd, Smashwords

There's a Cartoon in my Tech Blog!
This outstanding book of Tech Blog cartoons, put together to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of IT Professionals NZ, features 110 pages of cartoons carefully selected from ITPNZ's hugely popular TechBlog series.
Each cartoon includes a hilarious or thought-provoking take on a news story over the last half decade, complete with a reference to the news it relates to. Cartoons are put together by Jim (aka Brendan Boughen) to accompany stories written by Paul Brislen for ITPNZ's TechBlog.
This is the perfect gift for anyone who follows tech and can be found in receptions and waiting rooms across New Zealand's tech sector.

Return of Thursday Live webinars
Another lockdown, another Thursday Live Webinar! Actually, the timing was coincidental - we've been working on bringing the Thursday Live series back since the conclusion of the ITx Innovation Days :).
The first one will be an absolute cracker - Ministry of Health's head of Digital Shayne Hunter talking through the huge health reforms and the role of tech.
Block out 4pm-5pm Thursday 9th September - full details and registrations later in the week.
Become an ITP Mentor
As many ITP members will be aware, we recently re-launched our Mentoring programme for tech professionals. The free programme helps our people set clear career goals and objectives, understand that they have the ability to achieve these, and put in place a plan to do it.
The launch has been a huge success... so much so that we need more mentors! We're especially looking for senior developers, people who have moved from ops into management roles. and anyone with gaming or design type experience.
The process is super easy, and we provide induction, guidance, resources etc - you're not on your own.
Does that sound like you? Check out more info here
Get your ITP gear
Now is the perfect time to head over to the ITP store and grab yourself some sleek and practical items for work and play. These customizable items come in a variety of designs and are perfect for work, networking or casualwear.
The official ITP store has a whole bunch of professional and casual clothing options, some which can be co-branded with your company. It's a great opportunity to show that you don't just "do IT" - you're also serious about professional practice.
