Quick ITP update and upcoming events
Here's a bumper update for this week!
Firstly, do come and join Ants Dowling and me as we travel the country doing a quick update on ITP activities and strategy. It'll be great to catch up and see how things are going in your world too - more details below. Also, we're halfway through our exploratory huis on digital skills - come and make a difference.

ITP Update and Strategy Events - come along!
ITP CEO Paul Matthews and new President Anthony Dowling are heading to your place after Easter.
They're heading out and about around New Zealand to talk about:
- ITP's Strategy and Strategic Plan over the next few years
- The Industry Transformation Plan and how it will fundamentally change skills in our sector
- ITP's new CareerAdvance service and how it will help members get ahead
- Some proposed changes to the membership structure to ensure ITP remains relevant
- ITx coming to town in Innovation Day format
- And much more!
They'll be visiting Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Nelson and Dunedin next month.

Exploratory Hui on Skills
As part of our work leading the Skills Workstream of the Industry Transformation Plan, we're running a series of 8 online hui, each focused on a different set of barriers to digital industry skills development in New Zealand.
Our intention is to bring together a group of experts in each area to help formulate the plan. These are not talkfests - the outcomes will then be translated into policy and executed.
We are not going to solve everything in these meetings. They are intentionally short and sharp, to enable key approaches to be tested and good ideas float to the top. Further discussion and exploration will happen afterwards. Think of it as the brain-storming part.
We're halfway through the series, with 4 remaining:
5. Schooling System
What needs to occur within the schooling system (Years 1-13) to help achieve our objectives, given the assumptions? How do we get more school students excited about careers in tech, what existing programmes should be supported and what new initiatives are required?

6. Government as an Employer
Given the Government is the largest employer of tech talent in New Zealand, what should Government do "as an employer"? Which agency should take ownership and how do we enable a cross-agency response?

7. Diversity and Inclusion
Given the assumptions and outcomes, how do we ensure all actions also support the objective of improving diversity and inclusion in the digital technologies industries, and reduce the perception (and sometimes reality) of an industry less welcome to diversity?
Specific focus on gender, Māori and pacifika and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.

How can we achieve a coordinated national approach to upskilling and reskilling, catalyse, fund and support initiatives in this space, and achieve greater industry buy-in to investing in upskilling existing workers?

All-of-Govt Consultants Panel under refresh
Just a reminder that the All of Government Consultants Panel is currently under refresh. We would strongly encourage any IT consultants working in the Business Change, IT Systems Audit, Ops Management, or other areas covered by the Panel to register.
These panels operate as open "Pre-Qualification" panel - anyone who is eligible can register, go through the initial qualification list your services, and agree to a standard contract that is then used for engagements with Government entities. While some agencies may run a secondary procurement process, the idea is that the panel greatly simplifies doing work with Government.
We've had a number of members contact us over the last couple of years concerned that they couldn't list on the Panel due to infrequent refreshes. We've passed this feedback on to MBIE and advocated during meetings and workshops for it to be re-opened. This has now happened, so we strongly encourage you to register.
The panel closes again at the end of June.

Join ZX Security's Dr Elf Eldridge as he gives a summary of the top hacking and security breach techniques from 2020 according to the latest research, compares that with OWASP's top 10 list and others, plus outline what to look out for in 2021.
2020 saw a lot of web attacks across a range of techniques, both in New Zealand and abroad. We saw some of the largest attacks we've ever seen on our shores plus a good selection of "old favourites".
