Update from ITPNZ

Here's a quick weekly update from ITP CEO Paul Matthews.

ITx Rutherford 2019 registrations are coming in thick and fast - an awesome group of people are coming. This week we profile another top-level keynote presenter, Dr Figen Ulgen. With a massive background in AI, Business Intelligence and Analytics across companies like Microsoft Corp and Intel, Dr Ulgen will talk about data science and analytics in the real world.

You really don't want to miss ITx Rutherford 2019.

Also, we're partnering with the awesome peeps at NZRise to bring a workshop on the new Govt Procurement Rules. Just in Wellington currently, but we'll aim to record it for the ITP Video Library.

ITx Rutherford Keynote: Dr Figen Ulgen

Head of Analytics and Insights Strategy, Woolworths NZ

Dr Figen UlgenDr Figen Ulgen had started her journey in data science with Ph.D. in Machine Learning - making machines as intelligent as humans was the prize she was on the hook for.

Her career journey weaved analytics across many domains - building smart user interfaces in Motorola as a Research Scientist, consulting for Fortune 100 clients at McKinsey & Co, living through the startup phases of Windows Azure Product Planning and building a high performing Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics at Microsoft Corporation, starting the award winning OpenHPC community to democratize high performance computing and designing smart Data Center technologies with the help of AI as a General Manager at Intel Corporation.

Dr Ulgen recently moved to New Zealand to take up the role of Head of Analytics and Insights Strategy at Woolworths NZ, leading their drive to become a leader in data science and analytics.

Data Science and Analytics in the "real world"

Data science and analytics are crucial to the success of organisations today, but how do you harness the tools and technologies to make a strategic difference?

Dr Figen Ulgen will draw from her extensive experience as Senior Director of Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics at Microsoft Corp, General Manager at Intel Corp and now Head of Analytics and Insights Strategy at Woolworths NZ to talk about strategic Analytics.

The talk will cover off how to integrate analytics function successfully into an organisation, the concept of agile analytics, and much more.

New Platinum Sponsor

We're really excited with the sponsors who have stepped up to support ITx Rutherford 2019. They're serious about supporting the professional tech community in New Zealand and without their help, events like ITx Rutherford couldn't happen.

This week we're pleased to announce our newest ITx Platinum Partner:

CCL and Revera have now merged into a single entity and (together with Escrow NZ) are platinum partners of ITx Rutherford. Excellent.

4th Edition of the Govt Procurement Rules - What do they mean for NZ business?

Many of you would have heard about the 4th Edition of the Government Procurement Rules. With the 4th Edition of the rules set to be implemented on 1st October 2019, many agencies are actively including the 4th Edition of the Rules in their procurement processes now.

At this event, MBIE will walk through the 4th Edition of the Government Procurement rules, with a focus on the changes relevant to New Zealand businesses, particularly ICT and those with a Maori or Pasifika focus. There will be time for Q&A with the MBIE team, ahead of a small workshop facilitated by NZRise on how New Zealand ICT businesses can make use of what they have just been told.

We will endeavour to record this event and make it available to those outside Wellington via the ITP Video Library.
