Game on for indie game developers
The New Zealand Game Developers Association annual conference, NZGDC18, will for the first time feature a showcase of independent developers.
The Indie Biz Showcase evening event is aimed at up and coming game developers to "create connections and support networks to grow their business and advance their careers".
The game developer industry in New Zealand has gone from strength to strength in recent years.
Data from NZGDA shows that the industry is on track to earn over NZ$100 million a year and has grown by 110% between 2012 and 2014, compared to only 14% annual growth in the IT sector at large.
In 2015 there were 568 full-time professional game developers and artists in New Zealand, but that figure doesn't include the freelance or independent developers - hence the Indie Biz Showcase, to help draw them out of the shadows.
The jobs aren't all about playing games however: 40% of industry jobs are for artists, 40% for programmers and 20% for managers, customer support and the ever popular marketing department, according to the NZGDA website..
Thos wishing to present their wares at the Showcase are invited to fill in this form and while the event isn't open to the general public, attendees from the conference and indeed from the game developer communitiy can attend free of charge.
Applications close on the 6th of July. The NZGDC18 conference itself will be held on August 1-3 in Auckland.
