Bitcoin continues to entertain

Paul Brislen, Editor. 03 May 2016, 7:04 am

Australian man Craig Wright claims to be the brains behind the creation of alternate financial system Bitcoin but like all good online conspiracy theories, doubt is being cast on his claim.

Wright told the BBC's Click programme that he is the secretive "Satoshi Nakamoto", who wrote the original paper that lead to Bitcoin's introduction in 2008. By 2009 the first bitcoin software was released and in 2010 Nakamoto bowed out, handing control of the source code repository to Gavin Andresen.

Doubt was immediately cast on Nakamoto's real name - the persona was presumed to be a nom de plum almost immediately - and Wright's name was first mooted in 2015 in a Wired article.

Yesterday, Wright met with the BBC, GQ magazine and The Economist to conduct an interview he claims will be the only interview he will give on the matter. Apparently he simply wants to be left alone.
